Hot Time in the Old Town

Hot Time in the Old Town

It’s that time of year again! While New Orleans and Covington have their fancy White Linen Nights, Hammond takes a refreshingly more laid-back approach with Hot August Night. You’re certainly welcome to wear the fancy linen, but any festive, hot-weather attire will do!

Celebrating its 22nd year, Hot August Night, presented by the Downtown Development District, is scheduled for Friday, August 25 with tons of fabulous fun. At press time, they were still hammering out the details, but last year’s event featured live music on five different stages, a Kid Zone, High School Hype-Up pep rally, plenty of cooling stations, an improved Wine Walk, car show, Art Alley, Lionpawlooza, and SLU athletic autographs.

Wristbands for participating in the wine sampling typically cost $20 and go on sale in the DDD office at #2 W. Thomas Street in downtown Hammond the night of the event at 5:30pm, which is when the open container alcohol ordinance is temporarily lifted. Organizers expect around 10,000 visitors from all over the region, so parking will be especially limited. It’s a good idea to get there early. Carpooling is highly recommended.
