Cool Options for Outdoor Fun

Are you or someone you love not content to lounge around on the couch all summer? Sure, you could join a gym or hit a sports recreational facility, but how about a change of pace? Whether you’re packing heat, or have a need for speed, here are some cool options for outdoor fun in Tangipahoa Parish.

River Road Go-Kart Track (Hammond)

This go-kart track allows participants to race in a ten-car heat in their 10.5-horsepower Dino karts — and they have party packages and memberships. For the younger kids, they’ve got 5-horsepower single and double-seat karts. In addition to weekday nights, River Road Go-Kart Track is open on Saturdays from 11am – 10pm, and Sundays from 11am-7pm. rrgokart.com; (985) 351-4576

Tower Trax ATV Park (Fluker)

Tower Trax boasts 40 miles of trails spread out over 2,600+ acres of land. Highlights include oval and drag mud racing, five mud ponds, cabin rentals, camping and RV hookups, and a concession stand. The park opens at 9am on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, and on Fridays at 10am. www.towertraxatv.com; (985) 969-0114

Tangi Practical Shooters (Amite)

Both new and experienced shooters are welcome in this gun club, and the range is open to the public on Saturdays from 10am-2pm, except for the first Saturday of the month. Originally started back in 1981, this group has grown to over 145 active and inactive members, and they operate their matches in a family-friendly atmosphere at the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Range. www.tpsclub.org; (985) 507-6824
